About Us
VGTunes was founded on the ideal to provide music recorded directly from video games in a high quality format for listening to. Our mission is to continue this work, to provide video game music, in a common audio format, and to your request. We aspire to expand our library of video game music, and to make this music easily accessible.
The music that we have on Video Game Tunes is all taken directly from the games themselves. We don’t use ROM’s because quite frankly, they’re rip-offs. We wanted the music to sound like it does when you’re playing the game on your 19”/51cm TV that’s 15 years old. Well, actually I wanted it to sound a little bit better than that, but you get the picture.
We'd like to thank everyone for coming to our site, and we hope that you enjoy the video game music as much as we do.
Recording Equipment
The device we use to record music is called the Mp3 Blaster! from Creative Labs. It’s a very simple device to use, improving the sound on my PC while giving me the RCA inputs needed to play the music on my computer through the Sound Blaster recording software it came with. Contrary to popular belief, I don’t have some super computer that lets you play N64 games on it, I’ve just got a great HP Computer (the a1630n) with some nice Creative Labs speakers as well as the Mp3 Blaster! mentioned above.
History
VGTunes was founded on October 25th, 2004, after countless hours of searching the ‘net for video game music. The first music we had on the site was recorded for Rare-Extreme.com, a great website to check out if you’re interested in the company Rare Ltd. After that, I recorded some “Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” songs, and the site really took off.
Awards
VGTunes has been nominated for several awards, and is the proud recipient of the 2003-2004 Golden Web Award as presented by The International Association of WebMasters and Designers.
